As part of a recent effort to grab a few more minutes in bed before going to work in the morning, I’ve tweaked my pre-work routine:
1. Alarm goes off 6:00
2. Shower 6:05
3. Shave 6:15
4. Bed 6:20
5. Brush teeth 6:25
6. Get out of bed 6:35
7. Dress and go to work 6:40
As you may have noticed I’ve discovered a loophole in man’s morning routine ready to be exploited.
By moving a glass, my toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash to the side of the bed I’m no longer a slave to the bathroom sink, instead I can brush my teeth from the comfort of my own bed. Buying me more quality time in the morning and preventing the risk of me falling asleep again.
There is however one downside.
No post teeth-brushing trip to the mirror.
Not until I am alone in the lift on the way to my office. Predictably, having visited Starbucks, a news agents and spoken with 3 colleagues I found myself alone in the lift and noticed for the first time that I was wearing half a tube of toothpaste all over my chin.
I wiped it off and once I’d composed myself got to my desk. A little later feeling slightly better about the world I decided to share the story with my manager.
‘Really?’ she said ‘you know you did the same thing yesterday’
Perhaps I should have called this post ‘Why you should wash after work…’

hi tt247,
a few things:
1. what do you mean by putting a dyke rat on the front page of your blog?
2. i brush my teeth in bed too. i once went to work with toothpaste down the front of my shirt. word of warning, toothpaste is curiously staining. the shadow of that stain is still on that shirt after multiple washes. either that or i'm going to have to speak to my maid about the way she washes the clothes.
p/s my condolences on having to wake up at 6am for work. i wake up at 8am and i am already kao peh kao bu (ask J to explain this to you if you dont already know it).
3. thanks for the tips on how to improve my personal productivity at work. some, though not all are feasible. my eyes are falling out from reading at project gutenberg already, however the thing about training junior workers - my company is rapidly catching on to the fact that i do f.a. at work (my timesheets bear witness) so it is rather unlikely they will hire juniors to understudy me in doing f.a. :)
